What is nail fungus?

Fungal nails

A fungal nail infection occurs from the overgrowth of fungi in, under, or on the nail.

Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, so this type of environment can cause them to naturally overpopulate. The same fungi that cause jock itch, athlete’s foot, and ringworm can cause nail infections.

Is using lasers to treat nail fungus a new approach?

Lasers have been used extensively for the past 7-10 years for the treatment of nail fungus, resulting in numerous clinical studies. Laser manufacturers have used these results over the years to learn how to better design their equipment, enabling them to maximize therapeutic effects.

How long does the laser treatment take?

Healthy new nail growth is usually visible in as little as 3 months. Full regrowth of the big toenail may take 12 to 18 months Smaller toenails may take 9 to 12 months. Fingernails grow quicker and may be replaced by healthy new nails in only 6-9 months.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients show improvement after one treatment. The number of treatments needed will vary depending on how severely each nail is infected.

Treatment procedure
