v What is Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy,or “photobiomodulation”,is the use of specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects. This light is typically near-infrared (NIR) band (600-1000nm) narrow spectrum. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling.Laser Therapy has been widely utilized in Europe by physical

Tissue that is damaged and poorly oxygenated as a result of swelling, trauma or inflammation has been shown to have a positive response to laser therapy irradiation.Deep penetrating photons activate a biochemical cascade of events leading to rapid cellular regeneration, normalization and healing.

810nm

810nm Increases ATP Production

The enzyme determining how efficiently the cell converts molecular oxygen into ATP has the highest absorption at 810nm. Regardless of the enzyme’s molecular state, when it absorbs a photon it will flip states. Photon absorption will accelerate the process and increase cellular ATP production. ATPs are used as the main energy source for metabolic functions.

980nm

980nm Improves Circulation

Water in our patient’s blood transports oxygen to the cells, carries waste away, and absorbs very well at 980nm. The energy created from absorbing a photon gets converted to heat, creating a temperature gradient at the cellular level, stimulating microcirculation, and bringing more oxygen-fuel to the cells.

1064nm

1064 nm wavelength has the ideal absorption to scatter ratio. Laser light of 1064 nm is scattered less in the skin and absorbed more in deeper lying tissues and is therefore able to penetrate up to 10 cm deep into the tissue where High Intensity Laser promotes its positive effects.

Does it hurt?

What does a treatment feel like?

There is little or no sensation during treatment. Occasionally one feels mild, soothing warmth or tingling.

Areas of pain or inflammation may be sensitive briefly before pain reduction.

FAQ

*How long does each treatment take?

The typical treatment is 3 to 9 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

*How often should a patient be treated?

Acute conditions may be treated daily, particularly if they are accompanied by significant pain.

More chronic problems respond better when treatments are received 2 to 3 times a week, tapering to once a week or once every other week, with improvement.

*What about side effects, or other risks?

maybe will have a patient say there pain was slightly increased after a treatment. But remember – pain should be the ONLY judgment of your condition.

Increased pain may be due to an increase in localized blood flow, increased vascular activity, increased cellular activity, or a number of other effects.
