Nail Fungus Laser

1. Is the nail fungus laser treatment procedure painful?

Most patients do not feel pain. Some may feel a sensation of heat. A few isolates may feel a slight sting.

2. How long does the procedure take?

The duration of the laser treatment depends on how many toenails need to be treated. Usually it takes around 10 minutes to treat a fungal infected big toe nail and less time to treat other nails. To completely eliminate the fungus from the nails, the patient usually requires only one treatment. A full treatment usually lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. Once finished, you can walk normally and repaint your nails. The improvements will not be fully seen until the nail grows out. We will advise you on aftercare to prevent reinfection.

3. How soon can I see an improvement in my toenails after laser treatment?

You will not notice anything immediately after treatment. However, the toenail will usually fully grow out and be replaced in the next 6 to 12 months.

Most patients show healthy new growth that becomes visible within the first 3 months.

4. What can I expect from the treatment?

The results show that, in most cases, treated patients show substantial improvement and, in most cases, report being completely cured of toenail fungus. Many patients only need 1 or 2 treatments. Some need more if they have severe cases of toenail fungus. We make sure that you are cured of your nail fungus.

5.Other things:

You may also have a debridement, in which your toenails are trimmed and dead skin is cleaned, on the day of your laser procedure or a few days before.

Just before your procedure, your foot will be cleaned with a sterile solution and placed in an accessible position to direct the laser. The laser is maneuvered over the affected nails and can even be used on the unaffected nails if there is a concern that you, too, may be involved in the fungal infection.

Pulsing the laser or using selected wavelengths helps minimize heat on the skin, reducing the risk of side effects. A session usually lasts 30 minutes or less.

As the tissue breaks down, pain or bleeding may occur, but the skin will heal within a few days. Cutstomers must keep your toe clean and dry while it heals.
