How is physiotherapy treatment performed?

1. Examination

Using manual palpation locate the most painful spot.

Conduct a passive examination of the joint range of motion limitation.

At the end of the examinatin define the area to be treated around the most painful spot.

* Both the patient and the therapist must be wearing protective eyewear before the therapy and throughout it.

2. Analgesia

Analgesia is triggered by moving the applicator perpendicular to the skin in a spiral motion with the most painful spot in the center.

Start it about 5-7cm from the most painful spot and create about 3-4 spiral loops.

Once in the center, irradiate the most painful spot statically for about 2-3 seconds.

Repeat the whole procedure from the spiral edge and continue repeating until the therapy time is up.

3. Biostimulation

This continuous motion creates a feeling of evenly spread warmth and stimulates the affected muscles evenly.

Actively ask about the patient’s feeling of warmth.

If no warmth is felt adjust the power to a higher value or vice versa if the heat is too intense.

Prevent static application. Continue until the therapy time is up.

How many laser treatments are needed?

The Class IV Laser Therapy produces results quickly. For most acute conditions 5-6 treatments is all that is needed.

Chronic conditions take longer and might require 6-12 treatments.

How long does laser treatment take?

Treatment time lasts an average of 5-20 minutes, but will vary depending on the size of the area, depth of penetration required and the condition of the treatment.

Are there any side-effects to the treatment?

There are no side-effects to the treatment. There is a possibility of slight redness of the treated area right after the treatment which disappears within several hours after the treatment. As with most physical therapies the patient might feel a temporary worsening of their condition which also disappears within several hours after the treatment.
